The rare earth (Cerium) liquid filter consists of a solution of rare earth metals dissolved in perchloric acid. This filter is ideally suited for checking the wavelength accuracy of spectrophotometers in the low UV range. It has a spectrum with five characteristic peaks in the range from 201 nm to 252 nm.
This filter is recommended in the new Ph. Eur. (EP 10) and in the updated USP 857 (Dec 2019) for checking the wavelength accuracy in the range of 200 - 260 nm.
Ph. Eur. = European Pharmacopoeia
USP = United States Pharmacopeia
